Document Summary

Summarize the role of testosterone and estrogen in the sexual differentiation of the human body. The levels of androgens and estrogens determine what sex features develop. In a developing male, testosterone surges creating organizational effects hence making the person more masculine. Giving it in adulthood does not have any effects. Explain what intersex conditions teach us about human development. Chromosomal variation: turner syndrome: poor ovary formation, low hormone levels, immature sexual development, and other abnormalities in behavior, cognition, and physical features, kleinfelter"s syndrome (xxy): internal reproductive tract ok, but a small testes and sperm count. There is gynecomastia (growth of breast tissues), reduced facial and body hair, and a small penis and/or undescended testes. Hormonal variations: complete androgen insensitivity syndrome: when a person who is genetically male (who has one x and one y chromosome) is resistant to male hormones (called androgens).
