- The meiji restoration was when japan mixed western ideas in order to
modernize Japan.
- They got ideas from the US Declaration of Independence and from the
Enlightenment.
- Not everyone supported the change.
- There were many revolutions to keep the traditional japanese ideas
Russian Revolution
- The russian revolution occurred in 1917.
- It ended centuries of imperial rule, political, and social changes.
- This revolution lead to the formation of the Soviet Union.
- Russia had industrialized much later than Western Europe.
- When they finally industrialized it brought many social and political changes.

Mohammad Reza Shah
- Mohammad Reza Shah was ruler of Iran in 1970s.
- He believed in the pro westernization movement.
- He sought to bring changes to Iran such as roads
- He came to power after his father was forced to abdicate the throne by the
Allied powers.
- Many of the Iranians did not agree with his plan to westernize Iran.
- So many people sought to get him off the throne and many revolutions were
started.
- He also was supported by the United States because he was against communism
and he had secret police called SAVAK and they were part of the CIA
"Black Tuesday"
- On October 24, 1929, billions of dollars were lost and many business were wiped
out.
- Productions had declined and unemployment had rose.
- Some businesses tried to stabilize the market by buying up stock.
- The aftermath of Black Tuesday, led into the Great Depression
Fidel Castro
- He was a Cuban leader who established a communist state after leading an
overthrow of the military dictatorship of Batista.
- He ruled Cuba for several years and during this time his legacy was successful in
reducing illiteracy, and improving the health care in Cuba.
