Counter Movement Squat Jump
The exercise volunteer will perform 15 repetitions of the counter movement squat jump. The counter
movement squat jump is a slight squat (counter movement) followed by an explosive vertical leap. The
Tendo unit will measure the peak power, peak velocity, and peak force associated with each repetition.
After a warm up and practice repetitions, the student will be ready to perform.

1. What two energy systems are primarily used to perform the counter movement squat jumps:
aerobic, anaerobic glycolysis, or ATP-PC? (2 points)
ATP-PC and Anaerobic glycolysis are used to perform squat jumps.
2. Is the activity considered high intensity or low intensity? (1 point)
High intensity
3. Discuss what happened to performance over the course of the set. When did fatigue begin?
What was the difference in performance toward the beginning compared to the end? (3 points)
In the beginning the peak power, peak velocity, and peak force were all high and consistent. It
was evident that fatigue began during the 12 repetition because the measurements
decreased. Visually, Jeremy showed that he was getting tired and his jumps weren’t as
powerful.
4. What properties of the nerves and/or muscles contributed to the change in the performance of
the jumps? (4 points)
CP depletion lead to muscle fatigue, along with increased H+ production and inhibition of SR
Ca2+ release all contributed to the change in performance.
