Document Summary
Sometimes they are inherited as a unit. Because of crossing over, it"s possible now that the genes could be exchanged. The y chromosome is very small, so there aren"t many genes on it. The gene that is important for the y is the male determining factor. Genes for these traits are located on the sex linked chromosome. The recessive trait is the important one that causes the trait (colorblindness) If child has a heterozygous mother and homozygous father (both not color blind), 50% of their male kids will be colorblind. One female chromosome is inactivation and become a barr body. When an individual has one less chromosome (xo), looks like female. When an individual has an extra chromosome (xxy), looks like male. When an individual has an extra male chromosome (xyy), looks like male or supermale. When an individual has an extra female chromosome (xxx), they are female.
