Sp ed 250 final exam study guide, fall 2009. Children often blame themselves for maltreatment and think they deserve it. Blaming others is too dangerous and threatening, may result in breakup of the family unit. 60% of abusive parents were abused as children. Girls are 25& more likely to be victims. Girls account for 80% of sexual abuse victims. Federal and other reports estimate 3% to 5% of school aged population to be gifted. Talented and gifted education (tag) is not covered by idea. Tag is not mandated by the federal government. Most states provide a patchwork of services for tag. Only recently did iowa provide certification to teach in this area. Provision of tag services in iowa makes it homogenous to design tag services. Iowa mandates educational services for tag but these are not specified. Most parents think their children are talented. Willingness to do great amounts of work to achieve a high level or standard.
