Hypothesis: found in the introduction section of most journal articles, often derived from theories, must be falsifiable, something that can be proven or disproven. In individualistic societies, people are more likely to have an independent self. In general, you want to be the first speaker. Involves the effects using a particular number as a starting point to which we then make adjustments: ex: you want to sell your house for 100,000 and someone offers 60,000. You say no. they now offer you 80,000. Allies are less likely, which reduces the likelihood of dissenting views (asch 1956: less likely to represent minority segments of the population, less time is spent discussing the case, but animous verdict is more likely.
