Mass communication is the industrialized production and multiple distributions of messages through technological devices. Convergence- when content that has traditionally been confined to one medium appears on multiple media channels. Interpersonal communication- two or three individuals signaling to each other using their voices, facial and hand gestures (no technology) that they use to convey meaning: mass communication given through technology, and is carried out by mass media industries. Culture- ways of life that are passed on to members of a society through time and that keep the society together. (what is shared includes learned behaviors, beliefs, and values) Stereotype- predictable depictions that reflect (and sometimes create) cultural prejudices. (saying that all cheerleaders are snobby) Targeting- created to appeal to particular segments of society rather than the population as a whole. (women or men; the rich, the middle class, or the poor: asians, latinos, whites, or blacks; etc. ) Demographic indicators- factors such as age, gender, occupation, ethnicity, race, and income.
