The Night James Brown Saved Boston Reflection By: Suzanne Baumgartner The Night James Brown Saved Boston is a documentary that reveals the crucial  role that James Brown and his concert played in America’s political and cultural  history.  On April 5, 1968, following the assassination of America’s beloved  Martin Luther King Junior, which occurred just one day earlier, James Brown is  scheduled to perform in Boston Garden.  However, given the gloomy mood, the  band is feeling hesitant to play.  The Mayor, Kevin White, must decide whether to  allow the show to go on. Through the use of real footage from James Brown’s  performance that day as well as personal narratives from band members and other  Boston residents
