Economic materialism consists of consumerism and placing high value on the accumulation of material goods. Materialism means physical and the physical world is all that exists: there is no non-physical i. e. spiritual realm. Material girl by madonna is good because she is expressing the attitude that the accumulation of goods is what matters the most. Hinduism says that this the problem: it is why we continue the cycle of death and life, we are stuck in samsara, samsara: the cycle of life and death. It is the way life is experienced which disguised the true unity of reality. We see each other as separate, distinct entities but the reality is like an imagine reflected in a distorted mirror. There is more to reality than we think. Wealth, fame and power change hands too frequently. There are no lasting friendships in politics. You can"t take it with you when you die.
