Textbook: the practice of social research, babbie (14th edition) (rented) Epistemology: broad approaches to discovering and defining truth. Study of the ways of knowing things. Methodology: systematic tools and ways of finding out things. We want to know what will happen to us, what will be the results of our actions. Often the driving reason for why we conduct research. Want to establish cause and effect relationship. Probability: we want to know how likely a certain cause will result in another effect. The idea that we gain knowledge from not just our own experience and learning, but also from our peers/other people. Knowledge often a part of our cultural and communal life. Personal experience - because i"ve been through it ex) learning as a child the stove is hot! . Intuition - because i have a gut feeling ex) shady people shady free candy van. Our gut can be mistaken and beholden to stereotypes.
