Document Summary

After reading the lecture material and watching the videos posted, i feel that what ziya. Azazi means when he states, i kill the dervish, is that he remolded whirling that was initially done by dervishes. Originally, whirling was a religious practice that required a dervish to become empty to make space for god. Once he was empty, there would be enough room to be filled with spiritual knowledge. Through whirling, the dervish would receive messages from god through one of his palms and would rely the messages to the people on earth through the other. Azazi looked at sufism as, a philosophy and practice, and spiritually is a word not to be loosely used in its modern context, but something that needs to be redefined, (ers z). Here, he indicated that he agrees that whirling is a philosophy and a practice, but its spiritual aspect it once had needed to be changed.
