Reconstruction: period post-civil war; made sure equal rights were enforced. Indentured servants: poor individuals who couldn"t afford passage to us (contractual-indenture) Were viewed as important members of society. Master: come to a town and go to the guild, prove your skills by creating a masterpiece. Journeymen: apprentices who would journey around to find a master craftsman that you could work for, and would learn more. Apprentices: taken in by master and would work for a master until they were ~21. Specialization: master have journeymen do different parts of jobs; from rise of factory system. Robber barons: robbing from the working people and taking all the profits; the 1 percenter. Division of labor; less pay journeymen group together to defend their livelihood. Upward cycle (boom): rapid growth of companies; wages stay the same. Downward cycle (bust): recessions and depressions; layoffs and wage cuts. Govt gave grants, implemented tariffs; militias and injunctions. Govt stayed away from trusts, siding with unions, price-setting, regulation.
