Class format
No special permission numbers are left for this class. This means the class is full and no
students should email the professor for special permission numbers.
This class meets 2x a week
The slides for class are posted after class for that day
Readings
Required readings per each class
o Reading should be done prior to class
o Required text: Introduction to Sociology 10th edition by Giddens, Anthony
o Electronic version allowed as well if you do not want a physical copy of the text
The professor will also have news articles, journal articles, and book chapters for the
class to read
o Can be found on sakai
Need a textbook to get through the class
Class Requirements
There are 3 in class projects
o These will be done in groups
There are also 4 short film write ups
o Will not be graded based on grammar or structure
o Graded on understanding of material and the amount of effort put into the
assignment
o Half page to one page response is recommended for full credit
Index cards
Must have the date and your name on the card
Write two questions, concerns, or thoughts about the reading to hand in at the
beginning of every class
These must have something to do with the readings assigned to each class
No cards will be handed in on the days of group work and film screenings

Attendance and participation-6% of your grade
There are three tests in the semester
o Non cumulative
o Mostly multiple choice
Test dates
o Exam one: oct 9th (25% of grade)
o Exam two: nov 8th (25% of grade)
o Exam three: Dec 22nd (30% of grade)
In class projects-6% of grade
Film write ups- 8% of grade
There is no extra credit in this class
