Link mental disorders to childhood exp and surroundings: focus on interaction of developmental and situational processes. Mental disorders can be helped w/ proper env or therapy. Retains role as model for abnormal child psych. Key studies: pavlov classical conditioning, watson elimination of children"s fears and theory of emotions. 50s and early 60s behavior therapy emerged systematic approach to treatment of child and family disorders.
