Increased distance between fathers and their children is related to decreased contact. Factors associated with more positive outcomes for children with nonresidential parents: parental support, authoritative parenting, greater closeness to grandparents, less economic disadvantage, more family stability. Stepparents are less certain about their role in the stepfamily than are other family members: children"s expectations and loyalty issues, most stepfamily households consist of the mother, her children from a previous marriage, and a stepfather. Less likely to gain adequate weight during pregnancy.
