Political behavior and theories: culturalism + rational choice. Political identity: political positions based on the interests and perspectives of social groups with which people identify. Political socialization: lifelong process by which people form their ideas about politics and acquire political values. Parochial: political culture where citizens have a very limited awareness of the existence of the central government. Civic: acceptance of the authority of the government and belief in civic duties. Single issue party: political party that campaigns on only one issue. Party families: common notion used to describe party competition in europe; important when talking about european parliament. Social cleavage= p (party) + 1; p= c + 1. Will always have one more party than social cleavage. The more cleavages that show up, the more parties show up. Intergovernmentalism: between governments, more about relations with each other (european council and un are intergovernmental) Political culture: pattern of attitudes, beliefs, values of politics.
