The preoperational is the stage when kids start to represent things with words and images. Egocentrism refers to the child"s inability to see a situation from another person"s point of view. Example: the three mountain task: children assume that other people will see the same view of the three mountains as they do. Animism refers to kids think that inanimate objects (such as toys and teddy bears) have human feelings and intentions. Example: the child thinks that a toy gets hurt and is in pain by hitting it. Artificialism is the belief that people manufacture certain aspects of the environment. Example: the sun is created by a man with a match. Symbolic representation s the ability to make one thing - a word or an object - stand for something other than itself. Recall refers to the ability to correctly identify objects or situations previously experienced when they appear again.
