INTRODUCTION AND BLOOD LECTURES
Introduction
Appropriate use of Canvas
It may be used as a forum to find classmates to form study groups or discuss
course material
It is NOT to be used to post or email fellow students for missed class notes or post
any material not directly related to the course
oFor each email sent out by a student that violates this policy, 10 points will
be deducted from your course score
Professionalism
Excessive tardiness to lab will result in the loss of the 15 minute grace period
Responsibilities and Expectations
Excused reasons to miss class
oIllness (not a doctor’s appointment)
oReligious holidays
oUniversity sanctioned events
You will NOT be given a make up lecture and can’t make up missed lecture
assignments
Attendance:
In the event a class must be missed:
1) For medical absence from lab or lecture, bring a note (doctor’s appointment is
not excused absence)
2) If student is absent more than 1 time, instructor will require official
documentation
3) If student is absent on days when tests are scheduled due to illness
oRequired to notify instructor the same day class is missed and when
returning to class bring documentation of the illness on official letterhead
and signed by health care professional
4) Missed lecture assignments cannot be made up
o3 lowest lecture assignment grades dropped
oNO make up lecture assignments for any reason
5) Lab must be made up the same week it is missed
oIf you do not make up the lab exercise and miss 3 or more labs (regardless
of excused or unexcused) you will get an F in the course
Acts of dishonesty include
Cheating
oIntentionally using unauthorized materials
Fabrication
oIntentional/unauthorized falsification or invention of any information or
citation (making up data in lab or lecture)
Facilitating Academic Dishonesty
oHelping someone cheat
Plagiarism
oRepresenting another’s ideas as your own – use your own words and cite

Religious Observances and/or Missing Class
Student must personally hand the instructor a written notification of the projected
absence within two weeks of the start of the semester (may NOT include travel
time)
Notice should be provided as soon as possible for religious holidays or school-
sanctioned activities but NO LATER than the end of the schedule adjustment
period
Lecture Assignments
At least 9 random in-class lecture group assignments
Only highest 6 grades will count
For every one:
oYou need to write your full name, UID#, section # on the assignment in
the top right hand corner and sign your full name indicating that you were
here in class and actively worked on the assignment
oCite your sources (explain why you chose those)
oWork in groups of 4 (+/-) and hand in 1 assignment per group
oThe entire group must walk up to hand in the assignment

oLab quizzes: 90
oLab summary sheets: 90
Lecture Information
oRinging cell phone will result in a loss of 10 points on the exam
Exam Information
oOld exams on Canvas: NO answer key
oMultiple choice, essays, fill-in-the-blank, math-based problem solving, matching,
and true false
oFinal exam: all multiple choice on scantron
oExam questions ONLY include material covered in lecture
oMake up exam will consist of 10 essay questions and given during following class
period
oThe final exam will not be rescheduled for any reason
Exam Regrade Policy
oOnly exams written in ink will be eligible
oRequests for regrade must be typed and submitted along with original exam
answers the next class after exam is returned with a statement indicating which
questions are to be reviewed
