The people can start work as early as midnight. Kevin bales attempts to put a price on how much money is produced from contemporary slavery and the different sectors where slaves are at work. Prologue: bales discusses the differences of old slavery vs. modern slavery (he struggles to talk about slavery without romanticizing it) Slavery then and now is still about using violence to gain control. Bales describes modern slavery in a way that destroys all who are involved. Even though slavery is illegal everywhere, it does not mean that it is dead. Slavery today compared to slavery in the past. Race does not matter in slavery today. Poverty is the indicator of vulnerability today. Slavery has a more temporary nature (the slaves are disposed when they are in no condition to work, and are replaced by new arrivals) Slaves are cheaper than they used to be and have more value.
