Tips: see quadratic forms section of 1. 6; replace x2 with u (and therefore replace x4 with u2, factor, solve for u, then replace u with x2 again, then solve for x. Solve for all pairs of x, y that solve: x2 + y2 = 25 y x = 1. Tips: on this one, the addition method doesn"t work well. You can"t make x cancel with x2 or make y cancel with y2. Now you solve expand, and solve the quadratic for x. Once you get x, then you plugin to one of original equations, then solve for y.
