Sources differ, some say those born 1980-mid 90"s, 1980-2000, 1980-present. Other terms for millennials: generation y, the me generation, trophy kids, raised by helicopter parents, emerging adults. Most college students today: millennials, gen z, igen. Millennials are more narcissistic than people of past generations. People in different generations grew up in different environments, were raised with different values. Students today are overconfident and unrealistic about their future success, relative to past generations. Compared to college kids in the 80"s, college kids n 2009 scored significantly higher on the npi. Emerging adults today show more signs of npd than adults over 65. Millennials are not any more narcissistic than previous generations. Evidence that narcissism is linked to generation is weak, not consistently replicated. Some of the npi items don"t really seem like narcissism and are actually positive traits (i. e. assertiveness) Young people are always more optimistic about their lives when in emerging adulthood.
