Document Summary

People cannot make their own clothes, make all of their food from scratch, heal themselves effectively in face of injuries or sickness, produce certain necessities, and carry out a myriad of other activities--all at once. Instead, society is built upon a foundation in which all individuals each have their own specialty, or ability that they can carry out and provide efficiently as well as effectively to others. Specialization requires that one is adept and knowledgeable with what they are good at producing, and thus dedicate time and effort into producing that one sole good or service. In return for their services, they receive income to purchase other necessary services and goods, products that they themselves cannot produce alone. This trade system becomes efficient, as everyone can focus on his or her specialty in exchange for other products and thus, do not have to waste time producing things they don"t how to produce well.
