American men did not have right to vote and even if they had one, they were able to vote after the literacy tests which were mostly non-sense or very biased. This movement advocated measures to deal with the problems of industrial capitalism by using the power of government. It happened in response to the economic inequality, political corruption, corporate and personal greed, and rampant individualism without concern for larger social good.
