The third world is a term by alfred sauvy. It used to describe the poor/exploited countries during the cold war. Third world countries are non-aligned with nato or the communist bloc. Some third world countries are africa, asia, and latin america. However, the problem with term is that it distorts reality putting all non rich countries into one box. The term global south divides the north and the south, indicating that the south is worst compared to the north. The problem with this term is that it is imprecise due to the gdp and it does not mean nothing just categorization between the north and the south. The south is of the world population and 1/5 of the income earned. The developing countries are countries that cannot meet or experience great difficulties meeting the basic needs for their citizens. Such as housing, food, healthcare, education, electricity, communication, and physical security.
