Document Summary

Basic histopathology: histopathology the microscopic study of tissues, biopsy sample cells or tissue collected for examination. Should then be transferred into a 10% formalin solution. + 10% formalin helps preserve the structure of the cells and stops the degrading process of the tissues. Tiny sliver of tissue from within a mass or organ. Once the needle is inserted, an outer cannula is slid past a notch in the needle. The outer cannula cleanly cuts off the tissue pressing into the needle. With the outer cannula closed, the needle and tissue sample can be easily removed. Put in jar with sterile saline, then transfer to formalin: sections of tissue thicker than 1cm are not likely to adequately absorb the formalin solution. Surgical margin of tumors are marked with india ink. There should always be at least 10 times the amount of formalin as there is tissue. Samples in formalin should be bagged separately from blood smears and other cytology slides.
