Hemineglect (aka hemispatial neglect): loss or impairment to one side of the visual field. Patients can only draw half of a drawing because their visual field only. Contrary to public belief, most functions utilize both sides of the brain. Even if some tasks are more specialized, the other side of the brain is capable of processing info. Mostly occurs on left side of brain. Originally thought that language reception was related to handedness-> proven incorrect. Scientists believed that left handed people would use right hemisphere to process language. In actuality: 97% of right hand dominant people use the left hemisphere and 70% left hand dominant people use left hemisphere for language processing. Aphasia: loss of ability to understand/process language. Sufferers can understand but their responses are incoherent.
