Components of the speaking situation: physical location. Need to consider: layout, size of potential audience, temperature of room and lighting. Three different types of microphones: attached, portable, lapel (usually best because you can use your hands for notes and gestures, and you can walk around) Lighting: can be dimmed or adjusted (to create some sort of mood or atmosphere that you want, harder to control outside, use to set the right mood, the speaker. Posture, composure, and dress are all part of the speaking situation. Different speaking situations may call for certain forms of dress. It is the only element of speaking over which you have total control. Large rooms require a more formal delivery. If the audience is scattered, try to group them more tightly.
