Document Summary

Distinguish between hypotheses and predictions in the scientific method. Hypothesis- a rational accounting for a set of observations, guided by inductive reasoning, testable. Predictions- hypothesis leads to a prediction, can never be conclusively proven, gain credibility by surviving multiple attempts at falsification, not testable. Be able to identify dependent and independent variables. Independent- the variable that is being changed in order to elicit a response. Identify appropriate controls for an experiment what is not being changed or affected in an experiment, used to cancel the effects of unwanted variables. Interpret a graph and be able to determine any significant relationships (bioskills 2 &3) Histogram- illustrate frequency data and can be plotted as numbers or percentages, should resemble a bell shape, can use a curved best fit line. Smooth line graph- has a line of best fit, represents a mathematical function that summarizes the relationship between x and y, used with scatterplots.
