Contrast thinking like a political scientist to other ways of thinking about politics: most of our exposure to politics is advocacy of specific people, like donald trump in this election. Essentially, to see politics like a political scientist, you must analyze and ignore persuasion. Explain each of the six principles briefly: #1: actors have some interests in common and some in conflict. Common interests give them reason to work together. However, conflicts of interest give them reason to work against one another. Actors, therefore, have to negotiate to resolve if and how they will work together.
