The biosphere: the global ecological system, the largest. The sun = the energy source of life, the way life functions depends on energy. The electromagnetic spectrum: different packets of energy that have different wavelengths. Planck"s law of blackbody radiation predicts spectral distribution of radiance from a black body at a temperature as a function of wavelength. Wien"s law = wavelength of peak emission is inversely related to temperature. Gases absorb energy at different amounts depending on composition. Earth"s atmosphere stops some energy from reaching surface of earth. Global warming affects everything discussed in course. Biome = a large naturally occurring community type with flora and fauna that occupy a major habitat (with a distinct environment/ climate) like a tundra. Ecosystem = a biological community of interaction organisms and their physical environment; a system or a group of interconnected elements formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment.
