Depression is an affective disorder in which people experience sadness, low self-esteem, negative thoughts, pessimism, and apathy. And low levels of serotonin are tied to violence, impulsiveness, and even suicide. When we are successful at self-regulation, we are able to move toward or meet the goals that we set for ourselves.
