Quiz 6
Lab 6 (Genetics)
Be familiar with the terms in the glossary at the end of Lab 6. You won’t
need to define them, however you should be able to understand and use
the terms (e.g., Homozygous Dominant, Homozygous Recessive,
Heterozygous, Carrier, Genotype, Phenotype, etc.)
o Which term describes the physical appearance of a person for some
trait, or whether they have (or do not have) a particular disease?
Phenotype
o Which term describes a combination of alleles inherited where one is
dominant and one is recessive? Genotype
o If a particular disease is caused by a recessive allele (e.g., cystic
fibrosis, f), would a carrier have that disease? Could a carrier pass on
that disease to their offspring? Under what circumstances? A carrier
would not have that disease, a carrier could pass on that disease to
their offspring.
You need to be able to work all the types of genetics problems that we
learned in class, i.e., monohybrid/one gene, dihybrid/two gene, sex-linked,
incomplete dominance, blood types
o Do as many practice problems as you can find! (In the Lab Manual, in
the textbook, homework assignment, etc.)
Be familiar with NondisjunctionWhat is it?
Nondisjunctionfailure of chromosomes to separate correctly during
mitosis; could occur during anaphase 1 or 2
When does it happen? only Meiosis, in Anaphase I or II
