Description/definition : king of han by defeating xiang yu (aristocratic. Significance : made chang"an the capital, gave his comrades large territories. Liu bang won over xiang yu, lived to see han dynasty. Originally worked for qin as a minor local functionary in charge of a postal relay station. Made chang"an the capital, because original capital had burnt to the ground during the rebellion. Gave his hold comrades large territories to govern as vassal states -> mistake because he dispersed power, challenge to develop a form of centralised power that could secure order/ dynastic stability without being harsh. Method of centralising power combined military strength (wu) and morally centred civil arts (wen) Everyone thought xiang yu would be emperor, liu bang was a middle level governor who worked for xiang yu and he went on to become the emperor of han. > liu bang didn"t have the military training so people didn"t think he would beat xiang yu.
