Document Summary

In general, there must be some level of justice for a society to function. Although no legal system is completely flawless, we must at least attempt to enforce justice as equally as possible. This way, society will know that breaking the law will result in severe consequences. Enforcing justice sends the message that the government is keeping an eye on civilians to protect them and reinforce order. The potential pitfalls to enforcing justice unequally are social unrest and polarization. For example, if red-headed people were hardly ever given parking tickets while the rest of society had to pay for theirs, society would most likely be disgruntled but may not petition to make serious changes upon this unjust treatment. However, from a red-head person"s point of view, he may interpret lack of governmental enforcement and minimal societal unrest as green lights to push the boundaries in other areas.
