Developmental psychology: evaluation of people"s biological development and how individual things remain stable or change during one"s lifetime. Nurture: culture, parenting, social support, nutrition, socioeconomic status. This has the same nature, but different nurture. Stressful life circumstances can speed up the manifestation of certain diseases. Epigenetics: study of change in gene expression that are affected by the environment. Environment affects how genes work (based on when they are activated - turned on and off) Continuity: changes occur in small increments, through a smooth process. Discontinuity: changes with age include large shifts, qualitative changes, and stage theories. Both of these are true, because the tree can also be seen as the difference between seed, sapling, and old tree, and the butterfly can be quantified by height and width. Children shape their environment and are not passive learners. Crying = getting attention while nurture leads to being more able to thrive. Ned caregiving contact to live as their grow.
