COUN222 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Therapeutic Relationship
Document Summary
Giving your clients accurate information about therapy allows them to make an informed choice about whether they want to proceed and it may also improve outcome. Cbt is distinguished by a combination of characteristics; Part of the initial introduction to therapy would include a statement about the clients role. We each have an important role in the treatment. I know quite a lot about cbt, and about how particular sorts of problems can present difficulties for people. However, you know very much more than i do about the details of how your problem affects you, and it is this knowledge that will allow us to understand and gradually change the siutation for you. Therapist can not be expected to know all the answers. Openness and honesty between therapist and client: be overt about what you are doing, and why, and ask for honest feedback. Encourage client gradually to take more active role in setting agendas.
