Tensions started in 1990 when iraq invades kuwait for it"s oil-rich land. 19 march 2003 : usa launched war against iraq -> approx. Us allies suffered 318 deaths, 10 000 iraqi soldiers died in the war and 500 000 iraqis died result of the. Usa believed iraq was in possession of wmd. Usa (bush) intervened without un authorisation and without allies support -> removed saddam hussein. Interests: what actors want to achieve throughout political action; their preferences over the outcomes that might result from their political choices. Three groups of interests : power or security (realism), economic or material welfare (liberalism), ideological goals (constructivism) Actor: the basic unit for the analysis of international politics; can be individuals or groups of people with common interests. Important actor in ir: state: central authority with the ability to make and enforce laws, rules, and decisions within a speci ed territory.
