MIS 302 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Mcst, Hard Disk Drive, Electronic Waste
Document Summary
Hardware: physical component of it, consists of microelectronics-based computing or telecommunication devices, ex. phone, ipad, computer, etc. Every 18 months the speed doubles & the same device becomes cheaper- half the original price. Changing computers making it faster and cheaper. Because of this, computer chips are ubiquitous: everywhere. Executes instructions to either run a program or open a browser or game. Moore"s law applies to this cause for processors the chips in it will become faster. Doesn"t move or skip, doesn"t heat up as much. Ex. are phones and mac less likely to fail and draws less pwr. Main memory: cpu pulls from hard drive and places in ram while it"s being used. If not being used it stays on hard drive. Needs pwr to store data or instructions. If have more space then can do more stuff. Volatile: when the power goes out , all is lost that wasn"t saved on hardware.
