Document Summary

Increase the surface area of the epidermis and thus increasing grip, by increasing friction. Increase the surface area which increases the number of corpuscles of touch and thus increases tactile sensitivity: functional properties of the papillary surface of the dermis. Accessory structures of the skin: accessory structures of the skin are the hair, skin glands, and nails, these structures develop from the embryonic epidermis. Thermoregulation: thermoregulation is the homeostatic regulation of body temperature, the skin contributes to thermoregulation in 2 ways, 1) liberating sweat at tits surface. In response to high environmental temperatures sweat production increases, the evaporation of sweat helps lower body temp. In response to low environmental temperatures sweat production is decreased, which helps conserve heat: 2) adjusting the flow of blood in the dermis. In response to high environmental temperatures blood vessel sin the dermis dilate allowing more blood to flow, which increases heat loss.
