Lecture 2
First Unit , Second Chapter
Water characteristics and polluting water factors
Water properties
Knowledge of water characteristics and their properties is of
paramount importance, especially in many aspects of water use.
Water properties and effluent characteristics are used in several
areas including but not limited to:
A) Estimation of current and projected pollution levels.
B) Determine the nature of samples taken for testing.
C) Good control of flow rate and final disposal.
D) The development of indicators, standards, legislation, laws and
guidelines.
E) Establish and design appropriate purification and treatment units.
F) Evaluate the efficiency of the work of purification and treatment
units.
G) Develop suitable patterns for measurement, control and quality
control.
Water properties can be divided into three main sections, including
natural and radiological properties, chemical properties and
biological (biological) properties. The following paragraphs provide a
brief summary of the most important of these characteristics.
