Family systems theory is the sum of the parts of a family, explaining the inputs, relationships, and outputs in the system. Family characteristics are the input into the family system. Family interaction is the process of individual subsystems (extended family, parental, and sibling) carrying out roles and interacting with each other. Family life cycle introduces change over time.
