In english, membership in a particular form class doesn"t automatically determine grammatical function because the same form may have different functions. Nouns that can take the possessive "s are generally those that refer to. -s for plural formation/genitive case; "s to show possession. Morphological clues certain inflectional endings go with nouns such as evolution. courage people, time, animals, collective nouns. Nouns that generally don"t take possessive s are inanimate but there are inanimate nouns that. Count nouns: refer to nouns that can be counted; do such as company, team, committee, or government. Plural count nouns take a plural verb and are replaced with plural pronouns. Irregular count nouns follow older patterns of english syllabi.
