PSYC 1F90 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Critical Thinking
Document Summary
You are more or less passively soaking up the experience. There is nothing wrong with experimental processing; we humans rely on it frequently. It helps with perception, learning, intuition and creativity. Experimental processing works well for entertainment, but does not help if you actually want to learn things. e. g. - a job interview. It is highly unlikely that you were hired through experimental processing alone. You instead paid careful attention and made a serious effort in replying with the best possible answer to the given situations. By reacting mindfully, you participate in re ective processing. Re ective processing is involved whenever experimental processing is not enough and you must actively and effortfully control your thoughts to focus on the matter at hand. Re ective learning (a. k. a. elaborative processing) occurs when you engage in deliberately re ective and active self-guided study.
