Need to af liate - the desire to associate with other people. To form friendships we must identify possible friends. Finding someone you want to get to know can happen in a matter of minutes upon rst meeting. There are other factors that can attract us to people. We are attracted to people who we are familiar with. Our choice of friends is also based on physical proximity (nearness). Proximity promotes attraction by increasing the frequency of contact between people. Similarity refers to how alike you are to another person in background, age, interests, beliefs etc. The halo effect, which is a tendency to generalize a favourable impression to unrelated personal characteristics.
