Document Summary

Module 9: brain & behaviour (hemispheres & lobes of the cortex) Einstein donated his brain to research when he died; the cerebral cortex parts necessary for spaial and mathemaics were larger. Parietal lobes had a greater concentraion of glial cells. Cortex can be divided into 2 hemispheres (each difer in what they control) Various lobes are responsible for abiliies to see, hear, move, think, speak etc. Cerebral cortex covers most of the brain with a mantle of gray mater (spongy issue) Cerebral cortex contains 70 % of neurons. Human to animal intelligence is related to coricalizaion (wrinkling and increase in size of cortex) More wrinkled the cortex the greater the cogniive capacity. Cortex is composed of 2 sides which are connected by axon ibres called the corpus callosum. Let side of brain controls right side of body and right side of the brain controls the let side. Damage to one hemisphere can cause a problem called spaial neglect.
