Capacity: memory span, how many items can people remember 50% of the time, focus on chunks, made from smaller pieces- approx. Without recall and ltm, capacity is 4 chunks: recency effect: remember last few items on a list, forgetting- decay or interference, unitary store model- ltm and stm are closely connected. Phonological similarity effect- words that sound similar are harder to remember. Word length effect- longer words harder to remember because they take longer to rehearse phonologically. Visuo-spatial sketch pad-store visual and spatial info briefly. Could be separate: different brain mechanisms. 3 major executive processes based on different parts of the frontal lobes: task setting, monitoring, energization. Dysecutive syndrome: frontal lobe damage, damage do executive function, deficits in organizing and planning. Working memory capacity-operation span, how many last words: reading span- 50% of last words of sentences.
