Soci 1f90 - chapter 1 - understanding the sociological imagination. Sociology is the systematic study of human groups and their interactions. The sociological perspective is a lense to view the world through the relation between individual and social issues. Almost all human societies are patriarchies in which men control political and economic resources. Men make 35% more than women do. Example: a student fails a test because they did not study vs an entire class fails a course. Social issues can be made up of many personal troubles. The ability to recognize personal troubles in a social context. Ability to understand the relationship between society and the self, and how they influence each other. Philosophies include progressive populism, classical social theory, social responsibility and personal freedom. Seeing the bigger picture in the smaller instance.
