Document Summary
State - consists of a legal entity w/ a defined population. Culture - consists of what people in a society say & do. Society - consists of individuals in ongoing relationships. Time is another one of the primary ways we orient ourselves in the world. Like space, time is something we take for granted. But our experience of it is shaped by both our individual position & our cultural understandings. Our notions of time are tied to cosmology (worldview) & have political consequences. Linear view of time is rooted in the judeo-christian worldview. This became the time of all others. This view of time makes notions such as social evolution & progress (as a cultural goal) possible. Marking specific religious events? (jewish, muslim, julian, gregorian year calendars) Organizing times for work & rest?
