David chalmer gave a talk on consciousness. Consciousness = the feeling of being inside your head. Consciousness = the mystery of human life. We"re embarrassingly far away from solving this mystery. Some scientists and audience were risking their reputation by attending chalmer"s talk. Chalmer said the brain gave scientists lots of questions: How do you know to move your hand away from hot water. How can you hear your name spoken across the room even at a loud party. ^chalmer said these were all easy problems in the grand scheme of things, with enough time and funding experts could figure these things out. Why aren"t we just robots, computing information. Why aren"t we just robots retaining information and responding mechanically. Now, 20 years after this talk, we know a lot about the brain, progress is always being made, but the main problem remains.
