Traditional islamic approach = traditional methods to explain social/political change. Fundamentalist islamic approach = modelled on original community of muslims who were companions of the prophet. Islamic societies women & men socialized into feminine & masculine roles underclass of women. Politics of the veil colonial nationalist vs. islamist forces. Everyone has something to say except muslim women.
